Letter from Giles F. Yates to John James Joseph Gourgas. Dated August 29, 1827. In this letter, Yates, a member of the Supreme Council, Southern Jurisdiction, and Sovereign of Sovereigns of Albany Sovereign Consistory, states he has received Gourgas’ letters and is glad his Consistory’s report has been put before the Supreme Council, Northern Masonic Jurisdiction. Reports several members of the Consistory have seceded over the signing of the submission to the Supreme Council, Northern Masonic Jurisdiction, but believes enough members remain to operate the Consistory. Topics include Yates’ Masonic experience, the dispute between religion and Freemasonry, the Sublime system being borrowed by other systems, and the mismanagement of the Sublime system. Concludes by thanking Gourgas for a set of Masonic books and offers the services of Daniel D. Campbell as a courier to France.
