Title
Letter from Giles F. Yates to John James Joseph Gourgas, 1827 August 21
Description
Letter from Giles F. Yates to John James Joseph Gourgas. Dated August 21, 1827. In this letter, Yates, a member of the Supreme Council, Southern Jurisdiction, and Sovereign of Sovereigns of Albany Sovereign Consistory, asks Gourgas, a member of the Supreme Council, Northern Masonic Jurisdiction, to purchase for Yates a machine for copying letters. Moses Holbrook, Sovereign Grand Commander of the Southern Jurisdiction, has one, and Yates believes one may be purchased in New York City. Yates also explains why Holbrook has not shared a copy of the “Secret Constitutions of the 33rd” with Gourgas; a fire in Charleston on July 6, 1819, destroyed all of the Southern Jurisdiction’s copies.
