Title
The General boardinghouse card, between 1864 and 1867
Description
The General boardinghouse card. Dated between 1864 and 1867. This patriotic business card for Caroline Rogers’ boardinghouse, “The General,” most likely served as an advertisement to soldiers and the family members of wounded Union soldiers who were housed at the nearby Soldiers' Depôt at 50-52 Howard Street. Rogers’ boardinghouse was established in 1864, the year after the Soldiers' Depôt was organized, and resided on Howard Street until sometime in 1866 or 1867, shortly after the Soldiers' Depôt closed.
