Supreme Council warning and declaration, between 1882 and 1885
Title
Supreme Council warning and declaration, between 1882 and 1885
Description
A warning and declaration from the Supreme Council, Northern Masonic Jurisdiction. Dated sometime between 1882 and 1885. In this document, the Supreme Council warns brethren of the “wrong doing of certain persons in several States to peddle” degrees for gain. The document provides a brief history of three Supreme Councils in America (Cerneau, Northern Masonic Jurisdiction, and Southern Jurisdiction) and denounces the Cerneau inspired Supreme Councils of Seymour-Peckham and Thompson-Folger. The document also serves to expel several brethren who had sworn fealty to any spurious Scottish Rite body. Concludes by providing a list of officers, deputies, and active members of the Supreme Council, Northern Masonic Jurisdiction.
