Description
John Bull in his perilous feat of horsemanship. Dated between 1861 and 1865. This Civil War envelope depicts Britain (John Bull) riding atop of two horses, Union and Secession, as Britain precariously balances a bale of cotton on his shoulders. Secession, the Confederate horse, wears the seven-star national flag of the Confederacy, which was used from March 4, 1861 until May 21, 1861.
