Description
Liberty or death. Dated between 1861 and 1865. This Civil War envelope serves as an advertisement for the Haines' envelope holder. In addition to the company's advertisement, the envelope depicts images of an American shield, a liberty cap, the Constitution, a bible, and a rattlesnake with the word "secession" drawn on its body and pierced by an arrow.
