A colorful postcard illustration of the House of the Temple, headquarters of the Supreme Council of the Thirty-Third Degree for the Southern Jurisdiction, in Washington, D.C. Publication date 1915. The caption on the back of the postcard reads, “House of the Temple, (Scottish Rite), Washington, D.C. The new Scottish Rite Temple, or House of the Temple, is situated on the corner of 16th and S Streets. The building is very imposing, and it is the most beautiful and costly Masonic Temple in the world costing with furnishings $1,500,000. The sphinxes guarding the approach were hewn out of great stones weighing 109,000 and 110,000 pounds, the largest ever quarried in America.”
