This handwritten account by Lieutenant Daniel G. Macnamara of the Ninth Regiment, Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, certifies the authenticity of the attached flag remnant, which was piece of the American flag carried by the regiment throughout the Civil War. The Ninth Regiment was an Irish heritage unit.
