Letter from John R. Stall to John James Joseph Gourgas. Dated August 9, 1845. In this letter, Stall, who has seen a notice in Freemasons Monthly Magazine, asks Sovereign Grand Commander Gourgas for more information regarding the Scottish Rite, Northern Masonic Jurisdiction. Stall wishes to receive the Sublime degrees of Scottish Rite Freemasonry, but has never had the opportunity, except from itinerant brethren who did so illegally. He will be in New York again in October and would be “pleased to receive the degrees as far as the 33d.” Concludes by providing a list of his Masonic achievements.
