Letter from Antoine Louis Moret to John James Joseph Gourgas, 1828 October 09
Description
Letter from Antoine Louis Moret to John James Joseph Gourgas. Dated October 09, 1828. In this letter, Moret reports that he has received Gourgas’ letter of May 15 and has annexed to this letter his response to the president of the Supreme Council of the Rites, a body within the Grand Orient de France, regarding Joseph Cerneau. The Grand Orient is unwilling to examine the matter, Moret concludes, and believes that if Gourgas writes the Grand Orient, he will be silenced by Germain Haquet, a Cerneau supporter and the first Sovereign Grand Commander of the Grand Collège des Rites Écossais, and his followers. The Haquet band is no better than Cerneau and his followers. Topics also include the poor state of Freemasonry in France, the Dubernay manifesto, and the health of Haquet.
