Letter from Moses Holbrook to John James Joseph Gourgas. Dated February 27, 1832. In this letter, Sovereign Grand Commander Holbrook of the Southern Jurisdiction replies that he has received Gourgas’ February 13 package of French materials. Since contracting Dengue in 1828, Holbrook’s states his vision has deteriorated, he reads much slower now. Holbrook reports Nullification is having an effect upon Masonry. Thoughts of secession are gaining traction in South Carolina, and Nullification men will not apply for membership to a Lodge where a Union man is a member. Concludes by stating that he wishes to settle his account with Gourgas. Includes a receipt of materials purchased by Holbrook.
