Letter from Moses Holbrook to John James Joseph Gourgas, 1829 June 18
Description
Letter from Moses Holbrook to John James Joseph Gourgas. Dated June 18, 1829. In this letter, Sovereign Grand Commander Holbrook of the Southern Jurisdiction extends his Supreme Council’s gratitude for “the enclosures.” He has examined the letters from the “zealous Mason,” Giles Fonda Yates, and Jonathan M. Allen. Holbrook “likes the spirit” of resistance to anti-Masonry he now sees in Cayuga County, New York. He applauds the character of Samuel Knapp and concludes by stating he has not heard from New Orleans and fears “all is not right in that quarter.”
