Letter from Thomas Wildey to H. M. Brown. Dated April 6, 1839. In this letter, Thomas Wildey, the founder of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows in North America, reports to Brown, the Scribe of Dayton Encampment, No. 2, that he has received the constitution and bylaws. Wildey writes that he has forwarded the Encampment its charter and everything necessary for it to begin its work and congratulates the members of the Encampment for "extending the privileges of Odd Fellowship" and "advancing the happiness of man." Wildey concludes with a prayer for their prosperity. Dayton Encampment, No. 2, had been instituted on September 20, 1838.
