Hays appoints him as First Lieutenant Grand Commander of the Supreme Council for the Northern Jurisdiction of the Western Hemisphere or the Atwood Supreme Council. The certificate is dated November 19, 1857, and is signed by Sovereign Grand Commander Henry C. Atwood and by Grand Secretary General Robert B. Folger.
