Letter from Giles F. Yates to John James Joseph Gourgas, 1827 August 17
Description
Letter from Giles F. Yates to John James Joseph Gourgas. Dated August 17, 1827. In this letter, Yates, a member of the Supreme Council, Southern Jurisdiction, and Sovereign of Sovereigns of Albany Sovereign Consistory, writes that the official letter from Albany Sovereign Consistory and Yates’ answer to Gourgas’ favor of July 23 will be delivered by William B. Walton. Yates wishes he could meet with Gourgas in New York to explain the Consistory’s hesitancy to join the Northern Masonic Jurisdiction but will not be able to meet with Gourgas for some time. He thanks Gourgas for his willingness to assuage the Consistory’s concerns. Concludes by explaining his confusion over Gourgas’ statement regarding making the Grand Consistory “the true + just representative of the whole northern District.”
